Project: Advantage Unlimited
Area: Bromley
Funding: £9,920
Funding body: Fast Forward Grant
Advantage Unlimited, based in south London, was awarded a Fast Forward Grant of £9,920. Through this funding, the organisation provided ten weeks training to develop social and communication skills, decision making, and planning skills, for young adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Such training was beneficial as this disorder affects individudals’ development of social, communication and imagination skills.
Through meeting other beneficiaries in similar situations, trainees' confidence substantially increased. One beneficiary stated that "before I attended the project I'd never managed to get any help from anywhere and I hadn't met anyone in the same situation as me but after I joined the project my confidence has drastically improved and I'm planning to go on more training through Advantage Unlimited."
Beneficiaries were also provided with out-of-hours telephone support, and visits to their residences to aid them and their carers.
