Credo is a registered charity that runs rehabilitation projects for individuals recovering from mental illness using ceramics design and production, aimed at building confidence and self esteem so individuals may move forward towards employment, voluntary work, re-training and education.
Credo was funded by Fast Forward Grants to provide two five-week ceramic taster courses under the ‘Big African Pot Project’, to explore African ceramic techniques and decoration. The aim of the project was to build individual confidence and unlock creative talents.
Advertised in the local papers and via posters throughout Bromley, the project was delivered by two occupational therapy technicians, with guest speakers from various agencies in Bromley present at each session to provide advice and guidance on returning to work or progressing onto further education.
18 beneficiaries were recruited to the project, of whom two were lone parents, 15 disabled and one unemployed. Four beneficiaries have since become members of Credo and one has become a Credo volunteer. One has secured full time employment and five are working part time. One beneficiary is also now attending an arts therapy course and all beneficiaries received a certificate of competency.
As a result of running their project, Credo has secured Big Lottery funding to provide a regular outreach worker and are keen to offer services to the more rural and isolated communities within Bromley.
