Fast Forward Grant

In the 2006-07 Fast Forward Grants year, Kollun ran a six month basic ESOL and craft skills training project for long term unemployed, female BAME beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries benefited from learning and gaining confidence so as to be able to socially integrate at a number of levels - from going to the GP, shopping, school functions, to communicating with teachers.

The opportunity to learn (with final tangible end products such as quilts and cushion craft products) furthermore motivated these eager beneficiaries of Kollun.

Based in Stepney Green, Kollun strive for the development and social inclusion of BAME (particularly Bangladeshi beneficiaries). Kollun’s founder is Dolly Islam who has used her decades of teaching experience and skills to now help benefit her communities in a different, more personal fashion. The opportunity to cater to the needs of the community resulted in a burgeoning of self esteem, and decreasing of social isolation.
