Portobello Film Festival trained four unemployed people in practical journalism based around the production of two full colour 16 page magazines outlining the history, aims and participants of the Portobello Film Festival, which shows every film submitted, does not charge entry and is entirely delivered by unemployed volunteers.
The first magazine was published in January 2003. The course has been advertised in local jobcentres and FUNK and Golborne United community magazines and www.portobellofilmfestival.com
Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnic groups reflecting the multicultural melting pot that is Portobello Road.
