Fashion designers get their inspiration from very different sources. In the case of Andre McQueen and Imogen Paton, inspiration flowed from combining Japanese street culture and the computer games console. The result was Kid Ninkimono, their fashion label offering a fun new dimension for the fashion conscious generation.

As with all great ideas, it took hard work and bit of luck to get the idea off the ground. In Andre’s and Imogen’s case, the luck was receiving a leaflet through their door from GLE oneLondon at just the right time, advertising an event at the Mid Elmington Tenants’ Hall.

As a result, Imogen and Andre had a free session with a GLE oneLondon business adviser. There they had the opportunity to “discuss business ideas” and work extensively on their business plan.

The future looks bright for Kid Ninkimono. Their designs have been showcased on TV’s ‘Mayhem Makers, on E4 and worn by DJs such as Fresh, Rob Sykes and Deckline.

Suddenly their ultimate aim of “setting up a store in Japan” doesn’t seem like a dream, but a possibility.

Imogen’s and Andre’s advice is that it was hard before they got involved with GLE. “Having a business adviser is priceless, and sitting down and doing the paperwork is tedious but oh so important”.
