Entrepreneur: Saleah Campbell
Saleah went from a £200,000 debt to financial security in 14 months. This is a challenge for anyone but as a single mother, this made the task even harder. Her success gave her the idea for her new business.
Proved and tested by her own success, and confident that money management
workshops would work, Saleah drew up a business plan and evaluation report.
Unsure of
which direction she should take, Saleah heard of a new
programme, Reaching for Enterprise, which provided encouragement and support
for people with business ideas. Saleah got in contact and worked with an
outreach worker and business adviser,
Tim Kendell.
Tim saw that Saleah business would only survive if she had good marketing and
promotion for her workshops. “Tim made me think
very carefully about whom I needed to target and how I could reach them... Through my workshops, I hope to improve the financial
status of people, especially those experiencing debt or on
a limited income. Tim also had the idea that I should go and speak to a range
of organisations supporting people from registered social landlords, to credit
union organisers, law centres and even inmates of a prison, who would benefit
greatly from money management advice and support. I will be appearing on a
radio talk show, which will also raise my profile”.
Saleah’s money management workshops consist of six sessions which run
on a one day a week basis for six weeks. The sessions range from equipping
clients with the skills necessary to take responsibility for their finances,
thus creating a positive work profile which in turn helps the client to analyse
their true potential and future financial position.
“If you have a desire to start a business, you should just go for
it” says Saleah, and this indeed is what Saleah impresses on her
clients when closing her workshop sessions. She talks about dreams and aspirations, “They are the key to being successful!”
