Case studies - business accommodation

Company: MDS Battery Ltd
Owner: Mike Field
A previously derelict area of industrial land by the banks of the River Lea in Enfield has been regenerated by GLE Properties in 2006. “Riverwalk Business Park” houses 19 small businesses and is situated just ten minutes drive from the M25.
The first business to move into Riverwalk Business Park is MDS Battery Ltd, dubbed ‘the battery equivalent to Amazon’, distributing batteries to a range of clients across the EU and the US. The company was previously based in smaller units in Enfield but due to massively increased internet sales, larger premises to support the company’s rapid growth were necessary.
Mike Field, managing director of MDS Battery Ltd, hopes the new premises will significantly improve the company’s logistics, enhancing delivery speed and facilitating the expansion of new product ranges, due to the ideal location.
Mike believes that the attractive new office environment will also present an up market corporate front to the business, while also dramatically improving the work environment for his staff.
When asked how he found the new premises Mike replied, "when we heard the commercial units were being made available on a freehold basis we jumped at the chance – these opportunities are rare in Enfield.”
GLE is also developing larger freehold industrial / warehouse units that will be available in March 2007. Preference will initially be given to companies being displaced by the 2012 Games redevelopment project at Stratford.
