Screen settings

The web pages will look and function as intended, ideally at a display setting of 1024 x 768 pixels or above. At 800 x 600 pixels you may have to scroll horizontally to see the right menu.

You can browse the GLE website via links at the top of each page.

Information about images

For all of our pictures we have used alt tags to provide a description of each image. These are useful for people with impaired eyesight, users with text-only browsers, or who have chosen not to display images in their browser.

Downloading documents

To view documents that are in pdf format, Adobe software needs to be installed on your computer. Downloading this software is free. Click here to download the free Adobe software.

Adobe also enables users who have difficulty using pdf documents to convert them to appear as normal website pages. Click here to find out more.

Text size

If you find the text size on this website too small or too large, click on the increase font button on the right hand side of the page. This effect only lasts on all pages of the site, it will only work if you have cookies enables. Alternativly can make a permanent change to text size via your Internet browser.

For a computer using Windows operating system:

If you are using Internet Explorer, go to the menu at the top of the browser page and select View.

From the list of options, select Text Size. You will see a side menu open up; select the size you wish to view the website in.

• Zoom text smaller - Ctrl+-(minus sign)
• Zoom text larger - Ctrl+= (plus sign)
• No zoom (100%) - Ctrl+0
• View page source - Ctrl+U

For a computer using a Macintosh operating system:

• Zoom text smaller - Cmd+-(minus sign)
• Zoom text larger - Cmd+= (plus sign)
• No zoom (100%) - Cmd+0
• View page information - Cmd+I
• View page source - Cmd+U

For a computer using a Linux operating system:

If you have a visual impairment, you may find assistive technology can improve your web activity:

• Screen enlargers / magnifiers will increase the size of the website.
• Screen readers are software programs that present images and text as speech.
• Speech recognition replaces the function performed by a mouse or keyboard with your voice.
• Speech synthesisers (text-to-speech or TTS systems) receive what you type into the keyboard and "speak" it out loud, so you can check what you are typing as you type.
• Refreshable braille displays provide tactile output of on-screen information. You read the braille letters with your fingers then the next line is presented.
• Braille embossers transfer computer-generated text into embossed braille output. Braille translation programs convert text scanned in or generated.
