Programme history and overview
To date, the Childcare Affordability Programme has supported over 8,500 families to access childcare to support them to train, look for work or enter employment.
The current Childcare Affordability Programme (CAP) programme ends on 31st December 2009 however, a new phase is to be launched in September 2009 as the programme has been given status as a National Child Poverty Pilot.
If you are currently using a CAP phase 1 full day or flexible place (which means your weekly childcare costs will be subsidised)...
- this will continue until 31st December 2009
- the continuation will only apply to the nursery you are currently using
- after that date the subsidy will no longer apply and you should discuss with your nursery how much your child care will cost from 1st January 2010
If you are currently accessing a CAP phase 2 place ...
- the local authority or nursery will have provided you with an agreement which will state the final date on which your childcare will be paid for through the programme
- you should check your agreement and speak to your nursery or local authority if you are accessing a CAP phase 2 Special Educational Needs (SEN) place
Also, please be aware that ...
- no new places will be offered on CAP phase 1 and there will be no further recruitment
- no new parents / children will be able to access a CAP phase 1 place
- any parents / children who drop out can’t be replaced by another parent / child on CAP
