Intec Power Holdings - Intec Power Holdings Limited was founded in 2000 to further develop, prove and exploit a new means of generating electricity. The ‘Silent Urban Rotational Generator of Electricity’ (SURGE) system captures the natural movement of air that occurs around all buildings – irrespective of the level of natural wind, unlike traditional wind power systems – and converts this into electricity by means of an innovative, highly efficient and patented generator and ducting control system. Excess electricity can be sold to the National Grid. The LSC investment will fund the initial 12-month pilot programme, in which the first full-size SURGE unit will be optimised, installed and evaluated by a third party. Michelson Diagnostics - Michelson Diagnostics is developing an imaging instrument for use during cancer diagnosis and treatment. This will, in many cases, replace or improve the current method of taking tissue samples for offline laboratory analysis. The device uses optical coherence tomography to provide real-time images of sub-surface tissue at near-cellular resolution without tissue removal - an 'optical biopsy'. Within a clinical setting the company’s technology allows surgeons to see the size and location of a tumour in real-time. This allows them to assess tumour margin and spread giving better surgical outcomes and less chance of readmission.
