London Civic Forum Strategic review
GLE evaluated the London Civic Forum’s role and remit, and its membership structure, ten years after its inception and in a very changed political environment.
In the context of changes in the political governance of London and the loss of core funding, the review considered options for the future governance and funding of the London Civic Forum. Issues considered included:
- the changed environment, as civic engagement takes new and challenging forms;
- the political environment, with new Mayoral priorities and the change in government in May 2010;
- the widening role of the Forum, as it is asked to scrutinise a wider range of issues across sectors and much more widely than the original GLA remit;
- the changing relationship with the GLA;
- the relationship with central government, in terms of both funding and remit;
- questioning whether the Forum’s governance and membership structure are still relevant and appropriate for its developing role.
The report was used by the governing Council to inform their future objectives and strategy.
