  A pilot project to identify training needs within the retail, hospitality and tourism sectors linking small and medium sized enterprises with training providers, and tracking them through engagement to signing up of provision.

 

Project title: Social inclusion: development of third sector organisations
Dates run: 1999
  This was a partnership project supported by a range of strategic players. The consultancy involved research into skills issues in the Third Sector with the aim of building a better understanding of the factors impacting on the growth and development of the sector. A report entitled Competitveness and Social Inclusion - Investing in the Third Sector Skills Development, widely acknowledged as a landmark publication, set out the key challenges in the sector.

 

Project title: Regionalisation policy impact on NGOs
Dates run: 1999
Funder : National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO)
  Study into the implications of regionalisation policy on the activities of voluntary organisations and work of the NCVO. The work assessed current activities around regionalisation, and provided expert advice for developing a response to the proposals for regional development agencies (RDAs).

  GLE oneLondon was commissioned to examine how large scale office developments can be accommodated and integrated within the City Fringe area and at the same time maximise economic and social benefits for local communities.

 

Project title: Role of community centres in regeneration
Dates run: 1998

  A review of good practice examples of community-centre based regeneration projects. The review presented examples and ideas on how innovative approaches could be taken to developing the future roles and activities of the community centres in Islington and the initial implications this might have for the Council.

 

Project title: Commercial role of community centres
Dates run: 1998

Funder : London borough of Islington
  Following on from the intial report The Role of Community Centres in Islington: Examples from Elsewhere, this study involved a contextual audit and SWOT analysis of the Holloway Neighbourhood Group (HNG) to determine its potential in developing more commercial activities from their existing activities which allow the Centre to become financially sustainable in the longer-term.

 

Project title: Capacity building for community development
Dates run: 1998
Funder : London Voluntary Sector Training Consortium (LVSTC) and London Benchmarking Group (LBG)
  Research report for LVSTC and LBG on capacity building for community development (ESF Objective 3 Priority 4). The report created a framework for investment in capacity building to enable the Objective 3 programme to reach priority sub-target groups in London more effectively.
