Rough Guide to Communicating with Young People

Organisations are often keen to work with, mentor or present various topics to young people e.g. careers, citizenship, enterprise, but many individuals lack the knowledge on how to engage effectively with young people. As a result the exchange of knowledge and skills is not as successful.

“When we hear people are coming to visit our school, we naturally think they will be interesting, but most times they are not” Young person

"In my work with young people, it became obvious that certain delivery techniques increased the effectiveness and enjoyment of the sessions" explains the project manager. "Delivery is as important as content."

A GLE oneLondon / City Action Forum, “The Rough Guide to Communicating with Young People”, brought together young individuals, the corporate sector and others working with young people, to examine the different perspectives and identify solutions. As a result of its success, GLE oneLondon worked in partnership with City Action to further develop and launch the guide.

The guide, which includes a short film, provides essential tips and advice for all organisations, specifically the corporate sector and adds value to many schools initiatives and youth focused programmes.

The Rough Guide to Communicating with Young People was sponsored by GLE, and the City of London and was launched at HSBC’s offices in Canary Wharf.
