London

In London we have developed a bespoke European service that represents the London boroughs’ interests in Europe and creates opportunities for international partnership working.

Local authorities and regional partnerships, such as Lewisham, Southwark and the Thames Gateway London Partnership, have commissioned GLE to write their European strategy and to help maximise their European potential.

Brussels

Our Brussels office has been in operation for over ten years, advising and lobbying European institutions and helping shape policy on the urban agenda, regional development and economic and social issues relevant to European cities.

• We recently managed two European projects (INTERREG and URBACT), both recognised as successful examples of interregional cooperation. GLE brought together urban experts, practitioners and policy makers from major European cities to share best practice on social and economic issues and encourage development.
• We developed and currently manage the European service for London Councils, providing a voice for all 33 London local authorities in Brussels to ensure that London receives the best possible deal for London from Europe. The boroughs are constantly provided with information and intelligence, through debates, policy consultations and position papers to assist them in a range of activities.
• We take a leading role in a number of Europe-wide networks, such as Capital Cities/Cities for Cohesion networks and we are tightly involved with influential Brussels-based networks.
• We frequently host events on major policy developments and funding programmes. Seminars and round-tables bring together key representatives from the European Commission, European Parliament and other organisations to discuss the implications of European policy developments or to give advice on how to maximise European funding opportunities.
• We host frequent study visits for London organisations and their transnational partners.
• We provide a partner search service.

Prague

Since opening in September 2005 GLE’s Prague office has developed strong links with regional stakeholders in the Czech Republic, working with them on regional development, economic and social regeneration and business support.

The office presents excellent networking opportunities for local authorities and other stakeholders to develop partnership work with relevant institutions from the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries.
